Breaking: ICPC Detains D’banj Over Alleged Diversion Of N-Power Funds
Oladapo Oyebanji, better known by his stage name D’banj, has been detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged misappropriation of N-Power budget.
Fidel Info reports that the musician was apprehended and held Tuesday when ICPC agents closed in on him and forced him to present himself at the agency’s Abuja headquarters.
D’banj allegedly avoided summons for weeks by claiming to be abroad for scheduled concerts each time he was asked to appear for questioning over fraud allegations.
The pop musician, a famous and wealthy Nigerian, is charged with defrauding the Nigerian government out of hundreds of naira intended for the N-Power project, an empowerment initiative launched by the Nigerian government in 2016 to combat youth unemployment and advance social development.
Investigators contend that D’banj conspired with some tainted government representatives to add fictitious beneficiaries to the scheme’s payroll. Then, the recipients get payments into accounts that are now purportedly connected to the pop star.
After the musician failed to show up for interrogation despite multiple invitations, the ICPC moved to arrest him, forcing him to show up at the commission’s office on Tuesday.
Sources say, on arrival, D’banj was subjected to a prolonged interrogation session after which he was detained. His plea for administrative bail was rejected by officials who said the musician could not be trusted to attend his trial if released on bail.
Sources state that the ICPC might approach the court on Wednesday for an extended remand order to enable the agency complete its investigation before charging the musician to court.

Police Deny Arresting The Twitter User Who Insulted Aisha Buhari
According to the Jigawa State Police Command, it had nothing to do with the arrest of a Federal University, Dutse, 500-level student.
Fidel Info reports that Aminu Muhammad, a student, was detained for sending a tweet that appeared to make fun of Aisha Buhari, the first lady of Nigeria.
The tweet which was written in Hausa and accompanied by a photo of the first lady, read in English, “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full.”
Shortly after the post, Muhammad was purportedly detained by DSS agents, which sparked a social media reaction from Nigerians against the DSS and the first lady.
Inibehe Effiong, a lawyer, was one of many who criticized the DSS over Muhammad’s alleged arrest.
He tweeted, “You are defending Aisha Buhari because she’s someone’s mother. This argument is preposterous.”
“Thousands have lost their mothers to the incompetence and cruelty of the Buhari regime. Thousands have been orphaned by the corruption in management of funds meant to combat terrorism.”
On her part, activist Aisha Yesufu said, “Who is Aisha Buhari that an aggrieved citizen cannot talk about? Those of you talking about her so-called powers need to ask yourselves whether you are citizens or slaves.Duniya budurwar wawa!”
Also condemning the reported arrest, a social media influencer, Daniel Regha, said it was an abuse of power.
He tweeted, “Patience Jonathan was unfairly mocked everyday when she was the First Lady, no one got detained, but the SSS went ahead to arrest a Tweep (Adamu Muhammed) for criticising Aisha Buhari. Is that the job of the SSS? Why not charge the guy to court? This is an abuse of power.”
While the DSS was still getting criticised over Muhammad’s arrest, more reports stated that the student was arrested by the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, said he was not aware of the arrest.
“We didn’t make the arrest. An arrest cannot be made in my area without me being informed,” he said.
