CAN Kick Against Abuja Pastors Supporting Tinubu

Published

on

Some Abuja-based pastors and bishops on Sunday declared their Support for the Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who they described as having the right frame of mind to rule the country.

Fidel Info reports that the Christians Association of Nigeria, hours after the endorsement, however, kicked against the move, saying that CAN is standing on its earlier stance on ‘No to same faith ticket.’

The endorsement of the former Lagos State governor, by clerics under the aegis of Nigerian Coalition of Pastors for Good Leadership, took place after a town hall meeting with some party chieftains of Tinubu’s support group, City Boy Movement.

In a statement jointly signed by the coalition president, Apostle Babatunde Oguntimehin, and secretary, Revd Friday Obi, the ministers disclosed that it would be unfair for Nigerians to sacrifice the capacity of the APC candidate on the altar of the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The statement read in parts, “For a start, we are fully in support of the power shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, would have ruled for eight years. This is for equity and fairness as well as in the spirit of the existing unwritten rule to have power rotate between the North and the South.

“We were left to choose between His Excellencies Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Peter Gregory Obi, who are the frontline candidates from the South. After consideration of so many critical factors and wide consultation, we have decided to settle for the candidacy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.”

Oguntimehin hinted that their decision to endorse Tinubu is affected by several factors.

Continuing, the coalition president described Nigeria as a complex nation that can only be governed by someone with demonstrable experience, capacity, ability, and capability, which were evident in the Tinubu/Shettima ticket.

He added that the APC national leader has remained loyal to the cause of Nigeria, which was demonstrated through his involvement in National Democratic Coalition activities that brought the military to its knees and ushered in the current democracy in 1999.

“We have since noted that making religion or faith the top factor in choosing a candidate for the nation has never helped and will never help this nation. We cannot, therefore, sacrifice quality leadership on the altar of religion or tribe,” he said.

His position was also corroborated by the Head of Mobilisation for the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, who said Nigerians should look beyond religion and ethnicity to choose their leaders.

Meanwhile, Luminous Jannamike, Special Assistant on Media to the CAN President, Most Rev. Daniel Okoh, kicked against the endorsement, saying the group of clerics is a faceless one.

Jannamike disclosed that as much as the body cannot prevent individuals and self-acclaimed ministers from carrying out their activities, they cannot be seen joining issues with religious blocs not affiliated with CAN.

He said, “The message is very simple and clear. We still stand on our earlier stance of ‘No to same faith ticket.’ As far as we are concerned, they are a faceless group. We can’t be seen joining issues with them. They are free to do what they want to do.

“We need to be conscious of the fact that people have the right to congregate under any platform they want and say whatever they want. These people are not affiliated with CAN and we don’t even know them. They (Abuja pastors) are individuals who chose to endorse Tinubu. Good luck to them!”

2023: Tinubu Taunts Atiku, Obi At Lagos Rally

Published

on

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential candidate, yesterday pledged to lead a progressive inclusive administration if elected.

Fidel Info reports that by asking voters to vote out the former vice president in 2023 because he has nothing to offer the populace, Tinubu, who mocked the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Candidate as a recurrent Aso Rock challenger since 1999, urged voters to get rid of the man.

Speaking at a colorful mega rally held by the APC campaign team in Lagos, which was led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the former two-term governor of Lagos State was present at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere Lagos.

City boy arrives in Lagos to a large assemblage of people.

For the Lagos City Boy, it was sort of like coming home, as he was greeted by a euphoric gathering of APC fans from all around Lagos and the South-West regions. Most of Surulere was sealed down as they arrived in several cars.

Participants in the demonstration had already taken over the service lane of the highway by the time it was nine in the morning and all the parking spaces at the National Stadium complex, located across from the venue, were full.

It was a show of love for Tinubu, who governed Lagos for eight years and has been instrumental to the emergence of successor governors ever since.

Tinubu, who spoke in both English and Yoruba commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for the organisation of the rally, saying “I don’t see anything missing here today.” He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC leadership and governors among others saying together APC would retain power.

He said: “It is a broom (APC symbol) revolution. We will continue a progressive government for the country where nobody will be excluded. We will do our best. You will not be abandoned. You will not be forgotten in education, you will not be forgotten in healthcare.

“I know one man who has been running for the presidency since 1999, Atiku. He ran in AC, ran in PDP and is running in PDP again. With your votes tell him to go and sit at home. Retire him with your votes.

“He said he will ensure a better future for Nigerians. Don’t ’listen to him. With PDP, they were in power for 16 years. They gave you estimated bills, they forgot Lagos-Badagry road, forgot Second Niger Bridge, forgot and other roads. Don’t mind them.

“We have all 22 APC governors here. We shall win together. We will not lose any one of them. Go get your PVCs and vote for APC candidates. You have seen what Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat are doing in Lagos? For me, for you, and the stability of Lagos State, vote for Sanwo-Olu.”

With Tinubu at the rally are his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima; members of the APC National Working Committee, NWC, led  the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, members of the   Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, and governors elected on the platform of the APC.

The governors include Dapo Abiodun, Ogun; Yahaya Bello , Kogi; Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, Kwara; Gboyega Oyetola, Osun; Simon Lalong, Plateau; Aminu Masari, Katsina, and Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi among others.

Also at the rally were House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; Works and Housing Minister, Babatunde Raji Fashola; Minister for Information and Culture Lai Mohammad, former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel; former deputy Governor, Lagos State and Lagos West Senatorial candidate, Idiat Adebule; and former Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji.

In his welcome remarks, Sanwo-Olu said by the grace of God Tinunu is the next president and commended him pushing an idea that gave birth to “a stable Lagos today.”

“Tinubu has been doing outstanding things professionally and politically. He is the best man for the job. He is a fountain of knowledge. We want to translate the tenacity of Lagos at the centre. This is the beginning of mother of all rallies.”

Also speaking, Plateau State Governor and Director General of APC PCC, Mr. Simon Lalong, celebrated Tinubu, saying with his experience, capacity, reach and what he did in Lagos as governor “the 2023 presidential election is as good as won” for the APC because “victory is sure.”

According to him, Tinubu stands taller than all the other presidential candidates” and “he is a manager of men and resources and the best man to succeed President Buhari.

He said other Nigerians have accepted Tinubu and urged Lagosians not to reject their own but give him more support than they gave him in 2015 and 2019.

He also urged Nigerians to reject candidates who give fake statistics and make fake promises.

In like manner, the Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, said the 22 governors of the APC were in Lagos to campaign for Tinubu for the right reasons because Tinubu left a better Lagos with more opportunities for many, adding that if elected, Tinubu would replicate the feat at the centre.

On his part, Gbajabiamila described Tinubu as “the greatest Nigerian in modern day Nigeria politics” noting that none of the other 17 presidential candidates has developed men and women like Tinubu.

However, the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, urged caution saying “it is not over until it is over” and urged APC faithful to work hard and deliver Tinubu and APC candidates at the polls.

Kwara APC Supporters Organize Rally For Gov AbdulRazaq

Published

on

APC Women and Youths in the Central district of Kwara State came out in their large numbers on Friday  to reiterate their support for the second term bid of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, asking Kwarans to reward the Governor’s achievements with another mandate.

Fidel Info reports that The mega rally, which occupied some major streets of Ilorin the State Capital, was led by the Chairman of the State APC Campaign Council Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahya Seriki, with some of the participants holding brooms – APC’s Logo and their placards indicating their respective wards across Central district of the State.

This came 24 hours after the party formally received tens of thousands of decampees from the PDP, SDP and NNPP among other opposition parties in the State.

They kick-started the exercise at the Kwara State Stadium Ilorin in the morning and went round places like

Surulere, Baboko; Oja Oba Market; Gambari; Ipata; Market; Maraba; Post Office/Challenge down to the APC Party’s Secretariat at the Commissioners’ Lodge Way in GRA.

Speaking at the event, State APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fgbemi said APC remains a party to beat, given the outstanding performance of the Governor in the last three and a half years in the office.

He described the defection of opposition parties to the ruling APC which took place yesterday as a manifestation of victory for the party.

“The development is going to make our victory easier than we expect. Our Governor has been breaking barriers and building the future. That is what people appreciate in his administration. The decampees came on their own volition from seven different parties, gubernatorial and senatorial candidates, house of assembly members, former commissioners, SAs and so on. They are people that can add value to what we do,” the Chairman said.

Fagbemi said that with the mass defection of members of other parties to APC in Kwara it was obvious that their chances of winning were higher, saying PDP and other political parties are only deploying propaganda to seek relevance.

The Chairman thanked the party members from Kwara Central for coming out en masse for the mega rally.

Director General Kwara APC Campaign Council, Alhaji Yahya Seriki, said the APC supporters came together to demonstrate their acceptance of his choice to lead the Campaign Council, promising to do his best to deliver the State for all APC candidates at the polls.

“To God be the glory. Our people, especially the younger generation, are so excited that His Excellency Governor AbdulRazaq appointed me as the Director General of the State APC Campaign Council. What you are seeing is their way of showing appreciation to the Governor, and to let him know that they are 100 percent behind his re-election bid. By the special grace of God, we will deliver our candidates come 2023 elections,” he said.

Seriki noted that the good work of the APC led government in Kwara has continued to undermine the opposition parties to the extent of losing their heavyweights to the ruling party.

“We have no other party in Kwara. Those parties you are seeing are only ranting or making noise but everyone can see the reality themselves. Look at what His Excellency has been doing. There is no local government in the State that is not benefitting the government’s presence. Whether in terms of infrastructure or human capital development, ” he added.

“APC is waxing stronger daily. Just yesterday, our party received 6,800 decampees from PDP, SDP, YPP and NNPP among other opposition parties. The youths, in particular, have seen the difference and decided to take things into their hands. They are saying there is no governor in the history of the State that deemed it fit to empower the younger ones like this Governor did. He is a man that believes in the future of our younger ones. If you ask me, I would say the elections in Kwara are a walkover for APC. “

State Commissioner for Finance and  Spokesperson for the Council, Mrs. Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi, in her remarks, said the State is leading other states in the area of economic empowerment, attributing this to AbdulRazaq’s unique approach to governance.

“The economic empowerment in Kwara State is one that has never been seen before. We are leading the game among other States excluding the FCT, and I can say that Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has brought a new dimension to the game. He is not only empowering our women he has actually placed us in an economic position,” she said.

“You will see Mallam AbdulRazaq’s footprint in every sector within the State, and we are taking it higher in 2023.”

Also speaking, Chairman of Kwara APC in Lagos, Pastor Awire Sunday, said the group decided to join the solidarity rally due to the excellent performance of his administration.

He particularly appreciated the Administration’s strides in many key sectors to include Road, Health; Education; Social safety programme, and Agriculture among others.

“We are here from Lagos purposely to support the second term bid of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq because of his performance.

“We come home to vote here in Kwara every time because we have our PVCs here. From Lagos we have over 4000 coming to vote in Kwara and we also control our people who are based in Kwara. Anywhere we tell them to vote, that is where they will vote,” Pastor Sunday declared.
