No fewer than 10 persons have died and 236 others have been infected with cholera as the epidemic broke out in Gombe State.
Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abdulrahman Shuaibu, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing journalists on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, on the outbreak of the disease in the State.
He said as at September 20, 2022, the number of the cases stands at 236, noting that in 2021, the State recorded a total of 2,373 cases within three outbreaks within in previous year.
“This year, from 30th of June, 2022, we had sporadic cases of cholera in Balanga local government area and because of the preparedness and prompt response, it has been largely subdued without escalation.
“We are witnessing an increased downpour of rainfall and resulting flooding in many parts of the State and this resulted into cases of cholera outbreaks in eight Wards across Balanga, Yamaltu-Deba, Nafada, Funakaye and Gombe local government areas.
“The State Ministry of Health has promptly initiated public health actions for prevention and control of cholera. As at yesterday, 20th September, 2022, there is an increased number of cases in Gombe State, 236 cases have been line listed so far,” he said.
The Executive Secretary said the Ministry of Health had activated an incident management system for control of cholera at the Primary Health Emergency Centre in the State, established 13 cholera treatment units across the five affected local government areas for management of cases free of charge.
He added that a house to house sensitization and distribution of water treatment tablets in all affected communities would be conducted.
This is even as he stated that de-contamination of affected wells and boreholes in communities would be carried out.
On preventive measures against the disease, Dr Shuaibu advised the use of clean water, consumption of hygienically prepared meals particularly uncooked food, personal and environmental hygiene as proven preventive measures against the disease.
While noting that cholera is characterized by severe diarrhoea and vomiting, he said it can be rapidly fatal if prompt actions were not taken towards managing the case and without effective infection prevention control.
Gov AbdulRazaq Rewards Best Kwara civil Servants With New Car, Other Prizes
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the weekend presented a car key to the star winner of the State’s Civil Service Award programme, Dr. Kazeem Lakadir, in appreciation of his outstanding performance and character in the service.
Fidel Info reports that the Governor, while congratulating the star winner and other awardees, promised to sustain his administration’s motivational programmes for the workforce in the state.
“We have come to the end of the civil service week, which is a well organized event. It is nice to see smiles on your faces,” the Governor said in Ilorin at the Kwara State Civil Service Dinner and Award Night on Friday.
Dr. Lakadir, a staff of the Ministry of Health, won the star prize following a painstaking screening and recommendation of the Award Presentation Committee.
“Let me congratulate the awardees of this event. It is truly well deserved. It was only yesterday I was mentioning what the Ministry of Health did during the Covid19 pandemic and their outstanding performances. This award has come to show that I was not misplacing my praise for them,” he said.
AbdulRazaq commended the State Head of Service Mrs Suzan Modupe Oluwole for the initiative, which, according to him, was designed to make the workers happy.
“I congratulate the Head of Service for putting this event together. It is a good thing to make sure that the workforce is happy, to rally them together and make sure the right things are done for the State,” he said.
“On our part as a State we will make sure we always do the most responsible and sustainable things for you to make sure you have a conducive environment to work, and make sure your salaries are paid as and when due.
“We will do the needful to make you happy. Once you are happy you will deliver the service to the State.”
Other prizes doled out to the runners up and other categories of awardees included Plasma TV, Refrigerators, Power Generating set, and Fans.
“By the special grace of God this event will be bigger next year. As you know our government takes your welfare very seriously and we will always do that,” he added.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi; cabinet members and other government officials; serving and retired permanent secretaries; labour leaders; and other top civil servants in the state.
Mrs. Oluwole, for her part, thanked AbdulRazaq for prioritising workers’ welfare and for approving funds for the colourful event.
Civil servants who spoke at the event took turns to appreciate the Governor for being labour friendly.
Again, Saraki Thugs Vandalise Campaign Posters In Kwara
Thugs loyal to the Kwara State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have vandalised campaign posters belonging to candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ode Alausa, Ilorin, the state capital.
Fidel Info reports that the thugs who went on rampage were said to be sponsored by two PDP chieftains Dr Giwa Lukman and one other simply identified as Alhaji Uthman.
Both of them are loyalists of former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki who is the leader of the party in Kwara.
The thugs razed down all the APC billboards and pounced on passersby and innocent residents, leaving many people with varying degrees of injuries.
Our sources told us that many of the victims are hospitalised after suffering damages to their bodies.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time hooligans loyal to the opposition PDP in the state would be destroying billboards belonging to the APC.
They also orchestrated the destruction of APC billboards in Ubandawaki in Ilorin few months ago.
People have attributed these developments to acceptance of defeat by the opposition who are overwhelmed by the popularity of APC in the state.
They condemned PDP for resorting to violence which they said is a characteristic of their era, urging security agencies to step up their game in containing these notorious elements that want to destabilise the peace and harmony of the state.
Kwara 2023:Scores Join APC In Oke-Ero LG
Hundreds of defectors across opposition parties in Kwara State have joined the ruling All Progressives Congress in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the state.
Fidel Info Reports That The massive defections happened today on an open field during the local government APC General Ward Meeting in Idofin Igbana community.
The decampees claimed that, what is happening in other political parties are nothing to hold by but Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s APC has done so much for them in the local government and in the state at large.
Speaking for the Hausa Community, Mallam Abila Danlami said himself and his people residing in Oke-Ero has never had it so good and has no choice than to join APC and support Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s reelection for their personal and general benefits.
Welcoming the decampees into the APC fold, the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Oyeyemi Olasunbo Florence, said the defectors are from all the 10 wards of the local government having witnessed different developmental projects in their various localities.
The Commissioner who is a daughter of the soil also said several groups were represented such as, Fulani Community, Hausa Community including the plantation farmers from Ado-Ashe, all from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and other opposition parties in the state.
According to the Commissioner, the defectors realized, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has the excellence and has proven the worth, so the people see it as a must to join hands with him and ensure victory of the party from the Presidency down to the House of Assembly levels.
She said all wards in the local government are fully represented to throw weight behind the governor’s reelection bid and charge the environment while showing strong support.
She however thanked the governor for counting the local government worthy of the massive development it has experienced since the beginning of his administration.
Also, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. George Olabode Towoju hailed the governor for the recognition and support he is giving the indigenes and residents of the local government.
Hon. Towoju said there is hardly any ward in the local government that you won’t see at least one political office holder or the other. He revealed that, Oke-Ero is one of the few local governments in the state that produce two commissioners.
He said with the feat, “our people are totally committed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s project for him to win his reelection come 2023 for the continuity of the good governance Kwarans have always been yearning for.
