JUST IN: Biyi Bandele, Nollywood Actor Is Dead



Biyi Bandele Thomas, a writer of plays and novels as well as a film director, has passed away, sending the worldwide film industry, and Nigerian cinema in particular, into sadness.

His daughter, Temi Bandele, shared the sad news on Facebook under the name Biyi Bandele.

She claimed that on August 7, 2022, her father died in Lagos.

“I am heartbroken to share the sudden and unexpected death on Sunday, 7th of August in Lagos of my father, Biyi Bandele.

“We ask everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and friends as we grieve his loss,” she wrote.

Biyi Bandele, who was the movie director on the riveting movie, ‘Half of A Yellow Sun’ based on Chimamda Adichie’s book, was born 54 years ago in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, on October 16, 1967.

Meanwhile, CEO of EbonyLife Media, Mo Abudu, mourning the cerebral filmmaker, said Biyi would be sorely missed as his dedication and cheerful spirit endeared him to many.

In her instagram post, she wrote, “It is with deep sadness that we commiserate with the family of Biyi Bandele who died oh August 7, 2022 on Sunday in Lagos.

“Biyi Bandele worked with us at EbonyLife Media directing several of our projects, including FIFTY (2015), Blood Sisters Episode 1& 2 (2022) and the forthcoming film, Elesin Oba, The King’s Horsemen, for which he wrote the screenplay. Elesin Oba will premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

“Biyi had an eye for a story, was always passionate about his work, and had a great work for Yoruba culture. We will miss his dedication, cheerful spirit and collaborative nature. Rest in piece, dear friend.”

The likes of Kate Henshaw, Lala Akindoju, Etim Effiomg, Hilda Dokubo, to name a few, have sent their condolence messages, praying for his family left behind.

Novelist and Journalist, Henry Akubuiro, who had encountered Bandele’s charming personality, said he met Biyi last November at the CORA book party in Lagos.

Eulogising him on his social media handle, Henry said, “At 54, Biyi was too young to die, but his achievements over the years would speak for him, even in his absence. The decibels of those achievements would always resonate from all corners of the world.

“From the world beyond where he has suddenly transited, let the spirit of Biyi accept this agonising threnody from a weeping friend. Goodbye, cerebral mind.”

Bandele was a UK-based Nigerian writer for fiction, theatre, journalism, television, film and radio. He moved to London in 1990.

Bandele was born to Yoruba parents in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Nigeria in 1967. His father Solomon Bandele Thomas was a veteran of the Burma Campaign in World War II, while Nigeria was still part of the British Empire.

Bandele spent the first 18 years of his life in the North-Central part of the country. Bandele had ambitions to be a writer and when he was 14-year-old, he won a short-story competition.

Later on, he moved to Lagos, then in 1987 studied Drama at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He won the International Student Playscript competition of 1989 with an unpublished play, Rain, before claiming the 1990 British Council Lagos Award for a collection of poems.

He moved to London in 1990 at the age of 22 armed with the manuscripts of two novels. His books were published, and he was given a commission by the Royal Court Theatre.

Singer Portable To Marry Girl He Met At A Party



Controversial street singer Habeeb Okikiola better known as Portable is set to marry his pregnant lover, Keji.

Fidel Info reports that The singer had introduced his pregnant lover to his wife,Bewaji whom he wedded months ago.

This was coming after it has been rumored that he  brought the pregnant lady to live with him and his family.

Meanwhile, Bewaji upon receiving the news, got furious but was begged by family members before she eventually agreed to let things go.

According to report, Portable met Keji at a birthday party, before he confirming his plans of getting married to her.

A source said, “The name of the girl is Keji, and he has been dating her for about eight months.”

“They met between January and February at the party of a guy nicknamed, ‘Ogo Hookup’, in Agege, Lagos and He actually plans to marry her.

The Source further revealed, “The girl is the fourth girl in his life. He also has another lady called Asabi, and she is pregnant as well.”

“Bewaji got angry because she had been with Portable before he became popular.”

US:Stars Attend Takeoff’s Memorial in Atlanta



Thousands of fans have paid their final respects to the Migos rapper Takeoff at a star-studded memorial service in Atlanta, Georgia.

Fidel Info reports that Stars including Drake, Justin Bieber and Chloe Bailey were all reported to be in attendance at Friday’s “celebration of life” ceremony.

The 28-year-old musician died in a shooting at a bowling alley in Houston, Texas earlier this month.

Police are still investigating and have made no arrests.

Fans braved the rain to attend the roughly three-hour event at the State Farm Arena, a 21,000-capacity stadium.

Relatives – including the two surviving members of Migos, his uncle Quavo and his cousin Offset – led with heartfelt tributes to the young artist.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens gave the late rapper, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, the city’s highest honour: the Phoenix Award.

The event also featured musical performances from Bieber, Bailey, and gospel artists Yolanda Adams and Byron Cage.

No media was allowed inside the venue, and phones and recording devices were also banned but in images and videos leaked on social media, Drake and others were shown making heartfelt speeches.

Following the event, a motorcade was seen carrying Takeoff’s body to its final resting place.

The rapper was killed on 1 November by a stray bullet after an altercation broke out at a private party he was attending in Houston.

Police Chief Troy Finner, who has said at least 40 eye-witnesses may have been in attendance, has pleaded with the community to provide information.
