The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, Sunday, said the 36 State Governors are not afraid of direct primaries as being alleged by some Nigerians.
Sule stated this during a panel discussion at a town hall meeting being organized by Yiaga Africa on the passage of the Electoral Bill.
He also pointed that the governors are not afraid of direct primaries as being alleged.
o, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, said the Electoral Bill if passed into law will add value to the electoral process.
However, Jega accused governors of manipulating indirect primaries as they have been doing and might do same with direct primaries.
He also called on NASS to give INEC the law to operate 2023 elections.
According to him, INEC made 31 recommendations to the amend the 2010 Electoral Act to conduct credible elections, but NASS only approved 25 of the recommendations.
He maintained that governors will still manipulate the electoral process even if direct primaries are conducted.
2023 : One Good Turn Deserves Another As Kwara North Elders Endorses AbdulRazaq, Senator Sadiq For Second Term
Elders of the rulling party,All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara North senatorial district have declared their support for Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Senator Sadiq Umar’s re-election for a second term.
The FidelinfoNews gathered that the APC Elders, in an address prepared by Ambassador Nuruddeen Mohammed, addressed a press conference in Ilorin today Tuesday, saying that the only task left for party delegates at the upcoming party’s primary election on May 26, 2022 is to nominate the governor because no aspirant has expressed intention to contest against him.
“It has been widely acknowledged by our party members and people in the five local government areas of Kwara North senatorial district that the incumbent Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar has performed and served the people of Kwara North senatorial district with humility, most diligently in the past three years of coming to office,” they added.
“We, therefore, feel that he deserves another opportunity to serve our people and do much more for them,” said the party elders, who based their support for the governor on his stellar performance over the last three years. It is said that “one good turn deserves another.”
Mohammed added “Our position, which is contrary to the decision of the main opposition party, the PDP, which announced recently that its own candidate should emerge from Kwara North Senatorial District, is borne out of the fact that the incumbent and high performing governor, Mallam
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is constitutionally entitled to second term of office.
“We are also giving him our support for his re-nomination for the office of governor again because of the fact that in the history of Kwara state, no governor or administrator except him, has done so much to develop the entire state and in particular, Kwara North Senatorial District, in just three years of administration of Kwara state.
“We, therefore, feel that he deserves another opportunity to serve our people and do much more for them. One good turn, it is said, deserves another.”
