Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday stormed the residence of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

The anti-graft agency stormed the residence of the senator in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to arrest him.

They insisted that Okorocha, who is seeking to contest the presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), should submit himself for arrest or honour a long-standing invitation to their office.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Monday rearraign, former finance minister, Bashir Yaguda and four others in an FCT high court, Maitama for alleged misappropriation of N23.3 billion.

Others arraigned are retired Col. Sambo Dasuki, former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa and his son, Sagir, and their company, Dalhatu Investment Limited. They were arraigned on 25 counts bordering on misappropriation and receiving fraudulent proceeds.

The defendants were first arraigned, 2015 before Justice Peter Affen now justice of court of Appeal. They were later re-arraigned before Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf now the FCT chief judge then, before Justice Yusuf Halilu.

The EFCC accused them of diverting money from the office of the national security adviser between 2013 and 2015 to finance an electoral campaign. The defendants all pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

The defendants are to enjoy the bail condition given to them earlier. Halilu adjourned until June 30th for trial and June 7th to hear an application filed by Dasuki ‘s counsel.

Earlier, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, counsel for Bafarawa had urged the court to allow the defendants to enjoy the bail condition given to them earlier. He said on Dec 21, 2015, justice Affen granted them bail and Baba-Yusuf in Oct 7, 2016 asked them to continue on the same condition.

Counsel for the prosecution, Mr Oluwaleke Atolagbe , he would not object so long as the defendants are available in court for their trial. Raji Ahmed, SAN, counsel for Dasuki reminded the court of his application for his client to be allowed to travel abroad for medical attention.

Three Boko Haram terrorists were killed by Operation Hadin Kai troops in Gamboru, Ngala Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State.

According to sources, the troops worked with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), which encountered some insurgents while on patrol.

After a gun battle, the troops killed three of the terrorists while injuring one CJTF member.

Terrorists’ two rifles were seized by security agents.

In the last decade, the two factions have killed over 40,000 people in collaboration with the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP). Because of the ongoing violence, more than two million people are still displaced from their homes.

Soldiers have been fighting the armed rebellion for over a decade. In addition, government forces are fighting heavily armed gangs in the northwest and separatist tensions in the southeast.

Nigeria received a boost in April when the United States approved a nearly $1 billion weapons sale. Lawmakers in Washington had previously put the deal on hold due to concerns about possible human rights violations by the Nigerian government.
