Just In: APC Set February 25 For National Convention

Published

on

Bearing last minute change in plan, the national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold on February 25, 2022 in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

There have been contestations over the appropriate time to hold the all-important exercise of the governing party.

While some stakeholders insisted that the exercise take place in February, others were of the opinion that some of the crisis rocking the party be resolved before the national convention.

But confirming the date to journalist on Friday in Abuja, a top party chieftain, who pleaded anonymity said the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) under Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has agreed to hold the exercise by 25th of February.

“I can tell you now that our national convention will hold by February 25th here in Abuja, that has been confirmed by the National Caretaker Committee.

“The Buni-led leadership is not against those that were calling for the convention in February but the leadership wanted a situation where the house will not be too divided against itself during the national convention. If some of the life-threatening crises rocking the party are not amicably resolved it will further polarise the party even after the convention and we have to bear it in mind that after this exercise (convention) we will face with the general elections,” the source said

2023 : One Good Turn Deserves Another As Kwara North Elders Endorses AbdulRazaq, Senator Sadiq For Second Term

Elders of the rulling party,All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara North senatorial district have declared their support for Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Senator Sadiq Umar’s re-election for a second term.

The FidelinfoNews gathered that the APC Elders, in an address prepared by Ambassador Nuruddeen Mohammed, addressed a press conference in Ilorin today Tuesday, saying that the only task left for party delegates at the upcoming party’s primary election on May 26, 2022 is to nominate the governor because no aspirant has expressed intention to contest against him.

“It has been widely acknowledged by our party members and people in the five local government areas of Kwara North senatorial district that the incumbent Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar has performed and served the people of Kwara North senatorial district with humility, most diligently in the past three years of coming to office,” they added.

“We, therefore, feel that he deserves another opportunity to serve our people and do much more for them,” said the party elders, who based their support for the governor on his stellar performance over the last three years. It is said that “one good turn deserves another.”

Mohammed added “Our position, which is contrary to the decision of the main opposition party, the PDP, which announced recently that its own candidate should emerge from Kwara North Senatorial District, is borne out of the fact that the incumbent and high performing governor, Mallam

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is constitutionally entitled to second term of office.

“We are also giving him our support for his re-nomination for the office of governor again because of the fact that in the history of Kwara state, no governor or administrator except him, has done so much to develop the entire state and in particular, Kwara North Senatorial District, in just three years of administration of Kwara state.

“We, therefore, feel that he deserves another opportunity to serve our people and do much more for them. One good turn, it is said, deserves another.”
