The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has said the vision and resolve of the pan-Kwara political movement, Kwara for Kwara group, to rescue Kwara state from the grip of retrogressive leadership and political ineptitude aligns with the ideals and principles of the Party.
The Kwara state Chairman of YPP, Comr. Charles Olufemi Folayan said this during a consultative parley with Kwara for Kwara at the YPP Secretariat, GRA, Ilorin, the State capital.
In his remarks, Kwara for Kwara Consultative Committee Chairman, Issa Mutollib Ayobami said the Group’s meeting with YPP was part of ongoing consultations to determine the political directions and solicit partnerships that will truly position Kwara on the path to sustainable peace, progress and prosperity.
Issa noted that “While majority of Kwara for Kwara members, including notable members of YPP were part of the OTOGE movement that delivered victory for the current government, we are disappointed at the level of corruption scandals, political ineptitude, uninspiring performances and divisive tendencies that has become signature of the administration.”
“We are therefore galvanizing stakeholders support to forge a common front, in a bid to secure the future of the State”, he said.
Also speaking, Comr. Ibrahim Sheriff noted that “It is onerous on us to take responsibility for the failure a lot of us subconsciously enabled in 2019 and that is why we’ve taken it as a responsibility upon ourselves to not keep mum over the several fallings of this government and must therefore rally stakeholders support for a renewed struggle for a better Kwara.”
Kwara for Kwara Convener, Alhaji Ishola Mashood Abiola while speaking at the meeting reiterated the need to meticulously weigh the capacity and capabilities of leaders to be elected across levels in 2023, especially for representative positions, stressing that no political party should leave Kwarans with incompetent leadership options in the next elections.
Responding, YPP State Chairman, Charles Olufemi Folayan expressed happiness about the Group’s mandate, adding that lots of people with the ruling All Progressives Congress share the ideal that the Party is not a viable alternative for a better Kwara, but hanging on for fear of political uncertainty. Hence, only the brave will take action as Kwara for Kwara is doing.
“Kwara as of 2019 adopted APC to change the status quo, not because the Party was so strong. Like we did in 2019, we are like-minds and can partner again, towards pursuing a collective struggle to rescue Kwara state from the grip of retrogressive leadership.
“This efforts is sincere because it is about people who brought a government on board and still had the courage to challenge its failings without considering the usual political affiliation clause.
“As a party, we are ready to partner for a mission to salvage the State. We are ready to accommodate people with fresh ideas to achieve this common goal”, he added.
At the meeting were members of the State Executive of the YPP, YPP local government Coordinators from Isin and Ilorin South local governments.
