Lagos Assembly Moves To Jail Shady Contractors

The Lagos State House of Assembly has warned that any contractor that accesses mobilisation fees and absconds or does not carry out the job commensurate with the fee paid will be jailed for two years or a fine equivalent to the fee paid or both.

A statement on Wednesday said this was disclosed during a public hearing organised by the House Committee on Procurement to amend the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency Law Cap. L56, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Fidelinfo gathered that The Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Sanni Wasiu-Eshinlokun, in his keynote address, assured that all comments and observations by stakeholders would be looked into.

According to the Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade, the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency (Amendment) Bill 2020, has 82 sections and only 38 sections will be amended.

One of them is Section 22(4) (b) which provides that “Any supplier, contractor or service provider acting jointly under the provisions of the law shall be jointly and severely liable for all obligations, responsibilities and non-performance or improper performance of any contract arising from the provisions of this law.”

The Chairman, House Committee on Procurement, Rauf Sulaiman, implored the stakeholders to contribute their observations in respect to all the amendments, while assuring that their inputs would be considered.

JUST IN: INEC Fixes Date For 2023 Presidential Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that the 2023 presidential election will hold on February 18, 2023.

The Fidelinfo gathered that the Chairman of the Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Thursday.

The date was captured in his goodwill message at the inauguration of the special adhoc committee on the review of the 1999 constitution, the INEC Chairman told members of the House of Representatives they are about 855 days left for the next general elections.

APC Expels Ondo Lawmaker For Anti-party Activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended and expelled Hon Tomomewo Favour, the only female member of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Ilaje Constituency II.

The Fidelinfo gathered that Hon. Favour was expelled from the party by the executive of her ward (Mahin ward IV).

The ward chairman, Olamigoke Ajimuda and the ward secretary Omosule Taid signed her expulsion letter dated October 12th, 2020.

She was accused of engaging in anti-party activities before and during the just concluded Ondo State Governorship Election.

Buhari Appoints Media Aide, Lauretta Onochie INEC Commisioner

The President, Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate to confirm the appointment of one of his media aides, Lauretta Onochie, and three others as Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Fidelinfo gathered that the letter was read by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday.

Lauretta Onochie is currently the media aide to President Buhari on Social Media.

The President seeks confirmation of her appointment as a National Commissioner of INEC representing Delta State.

Others are Professor Mohammed Sani (Katsina); Professor Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti), and Seidu Ahmed (Jigawa).
