Kwara Govt says no new tax for Okada riders

The Kwara State Government has dispproved rumours making rounds in the media space of new tax for commercial motorcyclists in the states according to a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin Tuesday afternoon.

The statement read “The government wishes to clarify that this administration has not approved or imposed any (new) tax on commercial motorcyclists in the state. Whatever earlier information that the government plans to impose on road tax should be ignored,” said the Commissioner for Communications, Alhaji Murtala Olanrewaju.

Alhaji Olanrewaju assured commercial motorcyclists that the Government will always consult with Union leaders should there be any issues with respect to the operations of the motorcyclists in the state. He said the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration concerned about the insecurity challenges in the country and hence the need to beef up security in order to contain the excesses of some evil elements.

He said the Government is working in line with with the 2017 recommendations of the National Council on Transportation that recommended proper registration, licensing, identification and regulation of the operators.
